The annual conference organised by FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, on 10–11 September focused on mobility and smart infrastructures this time around. The EAACEC was represented by members of the board Maidu Saar and Johann-Aksel Tarbe as well as the CEO Kalle Karron.

Nearly five hundred consulting engineers from all over the world discussed the challenges of the design and construction sector. The conference raised the question of what the status of the global construction sector was:

  •  Productivity in the construction sector remains low.
  •  Labour shortage is on the rise.
  •  The public sector plays an important role.
  •  Smart cities of the future are a global trend.

The conference highlighted three major megatrends in construction:

  • Urbanisation: the number of people living in the cities is increasing
  • Energy/sustainability: energy-efficient solutions are necessary
  • Digitization: untapped potential in construction

In his speech, the FIDIC president Alain Bentéjac emphasised that it is civil engineers who often hold the key to practical solutions for a number of global challenges. With the regional professional associations in its 100 member states, FIDIC will continue to contribute to supporting the sector so that new technological solutions could play a part in creating added value.

Important facts:
EAACEC has been a full member of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers FIDIC since 31 August 1995.
FIDIC has been active for 105 years; the federation has 100 member states, uniting 1.1 million consulting engineers.
